Worshipping God With
A Holy & Obedient Resignation

The Father is seeking for true worshippers - those who will worship Him with a holy & obedient resignation. They are not plagued by perplexing anxiety and many uneasy fears - pertaining to their daily needs - for they have learned to totally relinquish the supply of their bodily wants to Him.

"Direct me by Thy good providence, that I may each day find sufficient portion to subsist on, as a hunter in the forest prays that he may have good speed." - Adam Clarke

"God is the best judge of what is most fit and convenient for us." - Biblical Illustrator - Old Testament

"In limiting our provision for the day, what a spirit of childlike dependence does the Lord demand and beget!" - Jamieson, Fausset, and Brown Commentary

"The greatest of men must be beholden to the mercy of God for their daily bread." - Matthew Henry

There are two prayers included in the pages of the Bible which God desires that every one of His children should pray on a daily basis. They are as follows:

Proverbs 30:8 - "...feed me with food convenient for me."
Matthew 6:11 - "Give us this day our daily bread."

"Food convenient" is that which is moderate to our natural necessities or that which is proper and suitable for the condition and circumstances in which we find ourselves. It is that which is allotted and appointed...the assigned portion for nourishment...the fixed piece...the bread appropriate... the sufficient portion for each day...or that which God thinks fit as a daily allowance. It takes in food and raiment.

"Daily Bread" is similar in nature. It includes that which is needful for the soul and body...the staff of life...the proper supply of food...that which this day's necessities require...everything necessary to sustain life...and the necessary supports and comforts of life.

In one request, Asaph the psalmist prayed, saying - "feed me..." In the second request, the Lord Jesus directed the children of God to pray - "Give us..." Both requests are directed to the Father and are petitions asking Him for His allotted provision for their lives.

Notice that it is not up to man to decide what is suitable or sufficient - what necessity calls for in order to fulfill duty. God is the One Who determines what is "convenient" or "of my allowance"(Wilson's Old Testament Word Studies).

In both prayers, the suppliant is directed to cast his bodily wants totally upon the God of heaven and earth. There is a reason for this. God is after something here - a quality which He desires to see manifested in all of His children. And that quality is - trust!

Life is so uncertain. Hence, He wants His children to totally depend upon Him Who alone knows the end from the beginning. He does not want them plagued by anxious and immoderate cares for tomorrow - something that none of them is promised. His desire is to restrain them - by His grace - from all covetousness and rather teach them the principles of sobriety, temperance, honesty, and industry. These principles would steer them away from selfish grasping and unfair living upon others. He desires that they obligate themselves to live solely by His care and bounty - disclaiming all confidences in other sources of supply and making it a duty to continually rely upon Him for His means of provision. Keeping up their duties to pray and depend upon Him would keep them from falling into the trap of sumptuous and luxurious living or covetous and inordinate desires for a superabundance of the supplies of life - which oftentimes turns their hearts from Him.

"God is the best judge of what is most fit and convenient for us."

The best way that you can worship Him is with a holy & obedient resignation concerning your "daily bread." He is seeking worshippers who can wholeheartedly and unreservedly trust Him.

If you will pray for your "food convenient" or "daily bread," He will be sure to provide what is needful for you.

He has not promised to supply your greeds - but your needs!

And who knows - you may even find yourself cutting up your credit cards and finally getting out from under that yoke of financial bondage that is robbing you of peace and sleep!

May God Bless His Word.
