Which Of Us Does Not Need Guidance On A Daily Basis?

"Man needs nothing more for this life than the confident assurance that he has the Eternal God for His guide, and that he will never be left or forsaken by Him in any possible situation in which he may be placed." - Barnes' Notes

"If we take the Lord for our God, He will conduct and convey us safely to death, through death, and beyond death - down to death and up again to glory."

"God defends His people by directing them, shows them what they should do, and so saves them from what is designed or done against them."

"Those that resolve to follow God's direction may in faith pray for it." - all of the above quotes from  Matthew Henry

To us who are prone to wander...ignorant of our way...oftentimes rash, heady, and obstinate...are walking through life's difficult regions...while encountering slippery places, snares, enemies, or perils - the questions we all need to ask are these - Which of us does not need guidance? Is there not a universal longing for it - a desire for a wisdom above our own to direct us in life's journeys?

The Scriptures assure us that God will give us guidance as we seek Him for it. Our God is a Shepherd by nature and trade - the Great Shepherd in fact - and One Who secures His fold by promising to accompany them faithfully to the end.

Let's examine a few Scriptures to see what the Bible has to say concerning this matter.

1. Guides Doubly

Psalm 31:3 says - "For Thou art my rock and my fortress; therefore for Thy name's sake lead me, and guide me."

God promises not only to "lead" but also to "guide" us. Here  we have a double word - indicating a very urgent need.

He understands that we are like a ship without a helm or a pilot - drifting about in life by every current and tossed to and fro by every wind and wave. We need double direction for we can be unwise and careless at times and our way is very rough. He promises to "lead" us - to  conduct us along our way. He also promises to "guide" us - to lead us gently, softly, and with care. The second word stresses His desire to provide for our every need. He makes our way plain and clear by leading us in the way of truth and in the paths of uprightness...according to the counsel of His Word...and by His Holy Spirit.

2. Guides With His Eye

Psalm 32:8 says - "I will instruct thee and teach thee in the way which thou shalt go: I will guide thee with Mine eye."

This particular promise requires a great attentiveness on the part of the follower as well as a great desire to know the Will of God. Rather than being restrained by God's hand, he is guided by His eye. Having his eyes, mind, and heart constantly fixed on His Master, he is able to discern the way that he should go.

3. Guides Into All Truth

John 16:13 says - "Howbeit when He, the Spirit of truth, is come, He will guide you into all truth: for He shall not speak of Himself; but whatsoever He shall hear, that shall He speak: and He will show you things to come."

The Holy Spirit puts us in the way...keeps us in the way...upholds us...and then brings us to our journey's end. He shows us the road to take...travels along with us...suggests, directs, and illuminates our path...while taking us by the hand and leading us to an intimate acquaintance with the truth as well as a strong affection with it. We are not only guided to the truth but wholly into it where it actually gets inside of us and lives there.

4. Guides Continually

Isaiah 58:11 says - "And the LORD shall guide thee continually..."

Like a shepherd, He stays with the job - going before us and leading us along the way. He knows that we are in need of continual direction from heaven. By His counsel, Word, and Spirit, He makes our way plain before us and causes us to rest from adversity and persecution and find spiritual rest in Christ.

5. Guides On Every Side

2 Chronicles 32:22 says - "Thus the LORD saved Hezekiah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem from the hand of Sennacherib the king of Assyria, and from the hand of all other, and guided them on every side."

This particular guidance included His protection and care. He guarded them round about and helped them...gave them rest from their enemies... and made them secure from all dangers.

6. Guides Unto Death

Psalm 48:14 says - "For this God is our God forever and ever: He will be our guide even unto death."

Through life and to our dying bed, He will graciously steer us along our way. He orders our steps - as the righteous - into the way of peace and life...holds us by His mighty right hand...and guides us with His Word, Spirit, providence, and special helpful intervention. As long as we live on this earth, we can be assured that He will be a constant guide - leading and keeping us even until the end.

Are you needing guidance today?
Allow this message to assure you that God will bring you safely to your desired haven of rest.

The Eternal God is your Guide. He will never leave you nor forsake you - no matter in which place you find yourself.

Never forget the words of Pastor Henry - "If we take the Lord for our God, He will conduct and convey us safely to death, through death, and beyond death - down to death and up again to glory."

Have you taken the Lord for your God? If so, then let Him carry you safely unto the end.

Stop fretting and worrying and let Him have control!

May God Bless His Word.
