O Jesus, Come And Lift
My Head That Is Bowed Down!
Today, the
devil may be saying to you - "Quit!...Fall down!...
Throw in the towel!... Walk Out!...Give
Up!...Abandon Ship!...or Lose all hope!"
What you need to do is give him one short answer - "NEVER!" Is your head hanging low as a bulrush due to the sorrow, mourning, and distress that floods your life at this time? Are the troubles that beset you getting the best of you? Do you find yourself in a low estate where your spirit is slowly drooping and failing? Are you drowning in the "quicksand" of despondency? Do you feel overpowered by the weight of affliction? Does it seem as though the enemy is winning the battle for your faith and soul? God has a word for you. It is found in Luke 21:28 and says - "...look up, and lift up your heads; for your redemption draweth nigh." God is telling you to look up - even though everything around you is pointing downward in defeat and despair. Look heavenward with hope. Look up with firm faith and earnest prayer. Put a smile on your face. Be cheerful and confident. Know that your help comes from the Lord - the Maker of heaven and earth(Psalm 121:2) - the One Who has all the power(Matthew 28:18) needed to turn your situation around. He is willing and able to save and redeem you from all your grievances and troubles. In Psalm 3:3, David said of Him - "But Thou, O LORD, art a shield for me; my glory, and the lifter up of mine head." David knew God as the Glorious One. But he also knew Him in a more personal way as - "my glory." What he was actually saying here was that this Great King is able to restore me by His Word. He is able to marshal all of His angelic hosts to fight for me...restore me to a position of freedom, honor, and dignity once again...give me new courage and boldness... encourage me...give me comfort and peace...cause me to rejoice...relieve my distress...take away my trouble...and make me victorious over all of my enemies. He will give me occasion to once again glory in His power and favor - as displayed in my life. In Psalm 27:6, he added - "And now shall mine head be lifted up above mine enemies round about me..." Now, shall I be safely placed on a "High Rock" - beyond the reach of my enemies. Now, shall I overcome and triumph over all who have fought against me. Now, shall my head be lifted up in prosperity. Now, shall I be restored to my former happiness. Now, shall I see my opposers subdued under me. Psalm 110:7 tells us how it will all be possible - "He shall drink of the brook in the way: therefore shall He lift up the head." Oftentimes, the conqueror would tire himself in the battle and stop by the brook to get refreshed along the way. However, this King Messiah of Whom David spoke in Psalm 110 drank of a different brook. He "drank" of the "waters of affliction"(Isaiah 30:20) for the sins of mankind. "He tasted death for every man..."(Hebrews 2:9). "In all their affliction, He was afflicted..."(Isaiah 63:9). He identified with these "fallen ones" when He was "oppressed"(Isaiah 53:7)..."afflicted"(Isaiah 53:7)..."despised and rejected of men; a man of sorrows, and acquainted with grief"(Isaiah 53:3)..."wounded" and "bruised"(Isaiah 53:5). Resultantly, He now has the power to do what the rest of the verse says - "therefore shall He lift up the head"(Psalm 110:7). He is now seated at the right hand of the Father in the seat of power(Psalm 110:5) - interceding for you and me(Romans 8:34). He is ruling in the midst of His enemies(Psalm 110:2). He is "wounding heads over many countries"(Psalm 110:6) - all those who are lifted up in pride against His rule and lordship - and "lifting up the heads" of all those who are humbled under His mighty hand. Jesus understands affliction. He knows what it is like to suffer...be despised and rejected...have a broken heart...and be filled with sorrow and grief. He went all the way to Calvary so that He could - this day - come into your situation and "lift up your head" that hangs down. Won't you let Him take control? Let Him be your "glory, and the lifter up of your head." He will turn your mourning into dancing(Psalm 30:11) - your sorrow into joy. He will give you a reason to shout and dance once again. Let Him have His way! He sees your tears and anguish and yearns to help you. "...look up, and lift up your heads; for your redemption draweth nigh." "And now shall mine head be lifted up above mine enemies round about me..."
May
God Bless His Word.
