The Truth Will Eventually
Come Out
"There is no use,
and no need, of concealing anything; right and
wrong, truth and error, are about to come into
open and deadly collision; and the day is coming
when all hidden things shall be disclosed,
everything seen as it is, and everyone receive
his or her recompense." -
Comprehensive Commentary
"...hidden things are meant to be brought out to
the open..." - The Expositor's
Bible Commentary
No matter what it is - your innocence, God's
Truth, people's hypocritical ways, what was
spoken in secret, the deepest secrets and
private motives of men's hearts, or prophecies
concerning coming events - all will be disclosed
or manifested before all.
In Matthew 10:26, the Lord
Jesus said -
"Fear them not therefore: for there is nothing
covered, that shall not be revealed; and hid,
that shall not be known."
He was referring to the persecutors who would
bring reproach upon His faithful servants. He
assured His followers that - although their true
character was presently disguised with false
colors - their innocence, godly principles,
integrity, graces, and services would - in due
time - be revealed before all. Their vindication
would surely come.
In Matthew 10:27, Mark 4:22, Luke 8:17,
He exhorted His disciples to speak publicly what
He taught them in private -
"What I tell
you in darkness, that speak ye in light: and
what ye hear in the ear, that speak ye upon the
housetops."
"For there is
nothing hid, which shall not be manifested;
neither was anything kept secret, but that it
should come abroad."
"For nothing
is secret, that shall not be made manifest;
neither any thing hid, that shall not be known
and come abroad."
What He revealed to them in secret, in
private, in confidence, in corners, and
"in the ear" -
as far as instruction concerning the Kingdom of
God - was to be proclaimed publicly -
"upon the housetops."
They were to give free and fearless utterance to
the whole counsel of God.
Just like the doctor - in explaining the law in
Hebrew - had an interpreter always by him in
whose ear he whispered his instruction and then
he - in turn - spake it aloud to others - even
so were the disciples to receive His
"whisperings"
in their ear and then proclaim them abroad. One
possible setting for such open proclamations
was the flat rooftops of the Palestinian houses.
He used the powerful illustration of a lit
candle on a candlestick to demonstrate how the
truths of the Gospel and its power to change
lives must never be hidden from others but
openly proclaimed -
"Neither do
men light a candle, and put it under a bushel,
but on a candlestick; and it giveth light unto
all that are in the house"(Matthew
5:15).
"And He said
unto them, Is a candle brought to be put under a
bushel, or under a bed? and not to be set on a
candlestick?"(Mark
4:21).
"No man, when
he hath lighted a candle, covereth it with a
vessel, or putteth it under a bed; but setteth
it on a candlestick, that they which enter in
may see the light"(Luke
8:16).
The disciples were enlightened in order that
others would also see the light. Never were they
to "muffle" themselves
- excuse themselves for obscuring the truth
because they were modest, shy, or inadequately
trained. As they were the recipients of God's
grace, even so were they to minister grace unto
others. Even as
"Wisdom"
in the book of Proverbs is found
"crying
without...uttering her voice in the streets...
crying in the chief places of concourse"(Proverbs
1:20-21), even so were they to
"go...into all the
world, and preach the Gospel to every creature"
Mark 16:15) and let their
"light so
shine before men, that they may see your good
works, and glorify your Father which is in
heaven"(Matthew
5:16).
In Luke 12:1-2, the Lord Jesus
addressed the hypocrites. Notice what He said -
"...Beware ye
of the leaven of the Pharisees, which is
hypocrisy. For there is nothing covered, that
shall not be revealed; neither hid, that shall
not be known."
Here He was talking to all those who tell lies
and live a lie under the pretense of holiness.
In other words, they are insincere in their
every day affairs. They attempt to hide certain
actions or attitudes, but before long, that
which is
"covered" is made manifest.
King Solomon admonished us in
Ecclesiastes 10:20 with these words -
"Curse not the
king, no not in thy thought; and curse not the
rich in thy bedchamber: for a bird of the air
shall carry the voice, and that which hath wings
shall tell the matter."
Here we see that that which is hidden in the
thought life or spoken in a most secret and
private place will eventually come out into the
open and be spread abroad.
In 1 Corinthians 4:5, the
Apostle Paul cautioned all believers against
censoriousness, the severe judgment of others,
or jumping to conclusions concerning another's
faithfulness to the Lord -
"Therefore judge nothing
before the time, until the Lord come, Who both
will bring to light the hidden things of
darkness, and will make manifest the counsels of
the hearts: and then shall every man have praise
of God." We can be assured
of one thing - the deepest secrets as well as
the hidden inclinations, purposes, intents, and
motives of every man's heart will be revealed
when the Lord comes back.
There is a time to conceal something and then
there is a time to reveal it(Ecclesiastes
3:7). God told Daniel to
"...shut up the words, and seal the book..."
for it was intended for a future age - a period
of fulfillment beyond his lifetime. But in
Revelation 22:10, He spoke to
the Apostle John and said -
".Seal not the sayings of
the prophecy of this book..."
The reason being is because his message was
immediately needed by the churches in order to
console them during persecution and to impress
upon them the nearness of Christ's coming.
"There is no use,
and no need, of concealing anything..."
Are you hiding something today?
Whether it be the truths of God's Word...your
talents and gifts...your shortcomings, faults,
sins, or a hypocritical lifestyle with every
excuse imaginable - be assured that the truth
will eventually be known by all.
"...hidden things are meant to be
brought out to the open.."
No matter
how hard you try - you cannot change that fact!
May God Bless His Word.
