Repeat It Again & Again & Again

"To know the measure of the praise due to Him; to see how great is His 'mercy,' it would be necessary to know all that He does in heaven and on earth. That will not be known here. It will constitute the theme of contemplation and praise forever and ever. Enough, however, is known here to show the propriety of repeating again, again, and again...the language, 'For His mercy endureth forever,' 'For His mercy endureth forever,' 'For His mercy endureth forever.' " - Barnes' Notes

C'Mon, Saints! Let's take the time to celebrate our God!

Psalm 136 describes Him as -

"the LORD"(verse 1) - Jehovah...Israel's God...the Sovereign of all sovereigns...the stay and supporter of all...the God Whom angels adore...the One from Whom all rulers derive their power

"the God of gods"(verse 2) - the God Who is supreme to all

"the Lord of lords"(verse 3) - the Ruler of all who are in authority

"Him Who alone doeth great wonders"(verse 4) - He alone does miracles, marvelous things, and supernatural acts. He does them without the assistance or advice of any other.

"Him that by wisdom made the heavens...that stretched out the earth above the waters"(verses 5 & 6) - He displayed much wisdom in stretching out the heavens and raising the earth out of the waters.

"Him that made great lights...The sun to rule by day...The moon and stars to rule by night"  (verses 7-9) - All are subject to His direction and disposal.

"Him that smote Egypt in their firstborn...And brought out Israel from among them...With a strong hand, and with a stretched out arm"(verses 10-12) - By His own direct power, He struck down Egypt and destroyed them. And with an arm stretched out so as to strike with utmost power or exert with the greatest of force, He delivered His people from their persecutors and pursuers.

"Him which divided the Red Sea into parts...And made Israel to pass through the midst of it... which led His people through the wilderness"(verses 13,14, & 16) - He made the Red Sea a lane for the Israelites but a grave to their pursuers. He opened a path and made His people courageously pass through it.

"overthrew Pharaoh and his host in the Red Sea...which smote great kings...And slew famous kings...And gave their land for an heritage...Even an heritage unto Israel His servant"(verses 15, 17, 18, 21 & 22) - Like a tree shaking off its foliage or like one contemptuously shaking off a reptile, He shook off the Egyptians and slew mighty kings - giving their land in possession to His people.

"Who remembered us in our low estate"(verse 23) - When in captivity to sin and Satan...

"Hath redeemed us from our enemies"(verse 24) - He snatched, rescued, and delivered us from all of our foes - giving us freedom and peace within.

"Who giveth food to all flesh"(verse 25) - He manifests His care, wisdom, and benevolence every day to all living things by meeting their every need.

How should all living creatures respond to such a Supreme Being?

David gave us the answer in Psalm 136:26 - "O give thanks unto the God of heaven..."

And what is the ground for our praise?

The answer is found throughout this Psalm - "For His mercy endureth forever."

His "mercy" - His loyal love - His covenant love - never changes...is never exhausted...is found in all of His dealings, acts, and peculiar displays of compassion toward His creatures. In His character, His mercy is blended with His power. Otherwise, we would be filled with utmost dread in approaching Him.

He is the Supreme Ruler over all, yet He is kind and gracious.
He is still in the business of performing mighty wonders to deliver oppressed people and remove their pain and disease.
His invisible attributes can be seen in His creation. He had prepared an abode for man where He can pour out His daily blessings on him.
Within the scope of Israel's history can be seen His kindness and faithfulness. His lovingkindness has not stopped. It continues into our history as well. He is still in the delivering business - exerting His power in order to deliver us from all bondages.
Through our "wilderness," He protects and provides for us on a Daily Basis - while safely leading us home to our "Promised Land."
Continually, He opens a path for us through all Satanic barriers, hindrances, and obstructions - while making a way where there seems to be no way.
He removes the wicked by death and transfers their wealth into the hands of His people.
In those situations where we find that we have no helper, He is there for us. He snatches us out of the "jaws" of our enemies.
He is Jehovah Jireh - our "Daily Bread" Provider - always mindful of our needs - even before we ask of them.

"For His mercy endureth forever"

If it was not for His mercy, we would never be able to approach the Throne of Grace in time of need. His power would scare us to death!

"For His mercy endureth forever"

In view of all that He has done in creation and throughout history, let's celebrate our God this day!

Truly, He is a Faithful God!

In all of our praises, let's never forget to take notice of His great mercy!

Let's repeat it again and again and again in the face of every impossibility and every foe - "For His mercy endureth forever."

With that in mind, we cannot help but be confident that the answer to every prayer and the solution to every problem is on its way!

"For His mercy endureth forever."

Repeat it again & again & again!

May God Bless His Word.
Connie
