The #1
Declaration Of Every Born-Again Christian
"The God of our salvation is
a great title for the One Who saved Israel from Egypt, Who saved Israel
from their sin, Who continues to save His people in their daily lives,
and Who will glorify His people in the future." - Nelson's New
Illustrated Bible Commentary
Revelation 7:9-10 defines for us what the
#1 declaration of all believers in Christ should be
- "After this I beheld, and, lo, a
great multitude, which no man could number, of all nations, and
kindreds, and people, and tongues, stood before the throne, and before
the Lamb, clothed with white robes, and palms in their hands; And cried
with a loud voice, saying, Salvation to our God which sitteth upon the
throne, and unto the Lamb."
What were they crying out with a loud voice? "Salvation
to our God which sitteth upon the throne, and unto the Lamb."
In other words, safety, deliverance, preservation, protection,
deliverance from judgment, healing, prosperity, and victory is to be
always and evermore attributed and ascribed solely to our God. He alone
is the author of salvation, and the Lord Jesus Christ - the Lamb of God
- is the One Who obtained it, purchased it, and then offers it to us.
It is so important - especially in our
day and time when man is exalted and praised as a god - that we get this
truth so ingrained in our hearts and minds and allow it to change our
everyday thinking.
God alone - through His Son Jesus Christ - delivers from sin, danger,
and death. It is He alone Who causes us to triumph over every enemy and
rescues us from the eternal burnings in Hell Fire.
Man - through his great
accomplishments or schooling - desires more than anything to be able to
claim the honor of salvation.
But Revelation 19:1
"stops the mouth of them that speak lies"(Psalm 63:11)
in saying - "After these things I
heard a great voice of much people in heaven, saying, Alleluia;
Salvation, and glory, and honor, and power, unto the Lord our God."
O Christian, are you saying what they
are saying in heaven?
Do you honestly believe that God alone
has the power to deliver from sin, Satan, death, and destruction? Can
your Faith in Him be seen before all when troubles come your way? Is the
Lord Jesus the first and foremost One on whom you call in your time of
need? Or do you look to yourself, your resources, another man, or an
institution to rescue you?
Just how powerful is your God? Is He
more powerful than the governments of men? Do you really believe that He
is Who He says He is? Is He really in control?
In Psalm 3:8, David said -
"Salvation belongeth unto the LORD..."
In Psalm 68:20, again he said -
"He that is our God is the God of salvation; and
unto God the Lord belong the issues from death."
In Jonah 2:9, the Prophet said -
"...Salvation is of the LORD."
David's troubles were increased. Thousands had set themselves and
were rising up against him. Many were saying that there was no help for
him - even in God.
How did he respond to such adverse
circumstances?
In the face of all his enemies, he boldly declared -
"Salvation belongeth unto the LORD..."
In other words, be the danger ever so great, God has the power to
save. "Salvation"
comes from Him and continues from Him. When all other helps and comforts
fail, the child of God who is trusting in Him can be assured of
deliverance. He will give "room to breathe" -
even in the midst of the fiercest battles or enemies.
Charles Spurgeon made this comment about our God and His great gift of
"Salvation" -
"The Almighty, Who has
entered covenant with us, is the source of our safety and the author of
our deliverance. As surely as He is our God, He will save us. To be His
is to be safe."
In Psalm 68:19, we find David celebrating the goodness
of the Lord in saying - "Blessed be
the Lord, Who daily loadeth us with benefits, even the God of our
salvation." In verse 20, he
mentioned one of those "daily
benefits" as being -
"...and unto GOD the Lord belong the issues from death."
In other words,
this God - Who is the "God of
salvation" - frees, rescues, or saves us from the
"jaws of death" or tragedies leading up to
death in this life. However, when the time comes for us to leave this
world and enter into eternity, He prepares us for death and makes it
easy to be borne.
On this particular
thought, Jamieson, Fausset, & Brown's Commentary offers this
comment - "The issues or escapes from death are under His control,
Who is the God that saves us, and destroys His and our enemies."
The Wycliffe
Bible Commentary has this to say - "Even as God performed acts
of deliverance in the past, He is still an ever-present helper Who
blesses daily and continues to deliver."
And again, Spurgeon,
in The Treasury Of David, remarks - "He has ways and means
of rescuing His children from death. When they are at their wit's
end and see no way of escape, He can find a door of deliverance...No
matter how strong the enemy, we will be delivered, for God Himself
undertakes to save His people from all harm."
In the belly of the whale, Jonah called on the
"God of salvation" for
deliverance - "...I cried by reason of
mine affliction unto the LORD, and He heard me; out of the belly of hell
cried I, and thou heardest my voice, For Thou hast cast me into the
deep, in the midst of the seas; and the floods compassed me about: all
Thy billows and Thy waves passed over me...The waters compassed me
about, even to the soul: the depth closed me round about, the weeds were
wrapped about my head. I went down to the bottoms of the mountains; the
earth with her bars was about me for ever: yet hast Thou brought up my
life from corruption, O LORD my God. When my soul fainted within me I
remembered the LORD: and my prayer came in unto Thee, into Thine holy
temple...Salvation is of the LORD"(Jonah 2:2-9)
"Strong Mighty Salvation" "is of the
LORD" - it is wholly His...comes from Him...belongs
to Him...is not an achievement of man...no one else can share in
bestowing it...includes deliverance from all danger, the preservation of
life, the recovery from sickness, and the redemption of the soul from
the power, guilt, and pollution of sin. He alone is the One Who works
salvation. Hence, from Him alone can it be expected.
Are you at your wit's end and see no way
of escape?
Be encouraged! God will find you a
"door of deliverance" for He is the
"God of salvation."
Let
this be your #1 Declaration - "Salvation to our God which
sitteth upon the throne, and unto the Lamb"(Revelation
7:10).
Rejoice that - "The God of
our salvation...continues to save His people in their daily lives, and
Who will glorify His people in the future."
Be comforted in knowing that -
"To be His is to be safe."
May God Bless His Word.
