Mercy's Golden Hours
&
Days Of Overflow
At this moment you may be feeling very low. Things are not going well for you at all. It seems that pain, adversity, trouble, sorrow, and lack have moved into your life and are there to stay.
God wants you to know today that His mercy is flowing for you at this present hour.
He wants to lift your weary soul with this message of encouragement from His Holy Word.
"All year round every hour of every day, God is richly blessing us. Both when we sleep and when we wake, His mercy waits on us. The sun may not shine, but our God will never cease to cheer His children with His love. Like a river, His lovingkindness is always flowing with a fullness as inexhaustible as His nature. Like the atmosphere that surrounds the earth and supports life, God's benevolence surrounds all His creatures, "for in Him we live and move and have our being" (Acts 17:28). As the summer sun pleases us with warm and bright beams, as rivers at certain seasons swell with rain, and as the atmosphere on occasions is fresh, bracing, and balmy, so it is with God's mercy. It has its golden hours, its days of overflow, when the Lord magnifies His grace and lifts high His love before the sons of men." - Charles Spurgeon, The Treasury Of David, pg. 1186.
God's desire for His children is that each and every one of them would have this testimony - "Thou hast dealt well with Thy servant, O LORD, according unto Thy word"(Psalm 119:65).
According to His promises - the principles of His Word - He has done nothing but good for us. He has done wondrously well - beyond our expectations and better than we deserve. Whatever His Word has promised, He has fulfilled. Even in our afflictions and trials, we can see His hand working everything out for our good in the end.
However, at this moment, you may be in the midst of the fiercest spiritual battle of your life. You may feel as though you cannot take another step or even lift your weary head. With sorrow in your heart and your tears your daily portion, you seem to have been handed a bitter cup from which to drink.
Don't lose heart! Your Golden Hours & Days Of Overflow are coming. You, too, will experience God's Wondrous Mercies again!
One thing that is for certain - God is a God Who "deals bountifully" with His children.
Whenever He does, He fills their hearts with singing...provides their souls with comfort, refreshment, and encouragement...enables them to walk in obedience as His faithful servants...and instructs them in His law.
The following verses confirm this truth -
Psalm 13:6 - "I will sing unto the LORD, because He hath dealt bountifully with me."
Psalm 116:7 - "Return unto Thy rest, O my soul; for the LORD hath dealt bountifully with thee."
Psalm 119:17 - "Deal bountifully with Thy servant, that I may live, and keep Thy word."
Psalm 119:124 - "Deal with Thy servant according unto Thy mercy, and teach me Thy statutes."
"I will sing unto the LORD..."
At this moment, you may not feel like singing. But your day of rejoicing is coming. Just trust in His mercy as Psalm 13:5 implies - "But I have trusted in Thy mercy..." And when you do, you will find that your "heart will rejoice in His salvation"(Psalm 13:5). Your long continued, deep, oppressive sorrows will give way to songs of praise at the demonstrated and evident favor, kindness, and goodness of the Lord.
Don't wait for a manifestation of His salvation. Begin to praise Him now in expectation and total confidence that all will turn out well. His bountiful care will once again be your portion. He is Faithful and committed to take care of His people. And that He will do. Just trust Him.
He will restore your fearful, anxious, agitated, terrified, and troubled soul to its former state of tranquility, and calmness - "Return unto Thy rest, O my soul..."
Oftentimes, in periods of trial and testing, the soul is moved from God as its central focus. Resultantly, it becomes overcome with distrustful and disquieting fears. It is then that the Lord intervenes - "...for the LORD hath dealt bountifully with thee..." - bringing the soul back to a state of quiet repose - complete, entire rest in Him for all times and in all circumstances.
What wonderful benefits we experience when God "deals bountifully" with us.
It is no wonder that the Psalmist cried out in Psalm 119:17 - "Deal bountifully with Thy servant, that I may live, and keep Thy word."
Perhaps you have fallen into sin and are suffering disgrace and shame at this time. No matter how hard you try - you cannot seem to get up and walk again as your did before. It seems as though you are "down for the count" and the devil has won the victory.
Cry out to the Lord from the depths of your being - "Deal bountifully with Thy servant, that I may live, and keep Thy word." Know this - without His abundant mercies and great grace, not a one of us can live - whether physically or spiritually. We all need His bountiful assistance. We certainly cannot faithfully serve Him in our own strength or obey His commands. The only way that we can work for Him is if He first works in us.
Read Charles Bridges' words and receive encouragement today - "Remembering what a poor, weak, empty, and helpless creature the most experienced believer is, it is not conceivable that anything short of a bountiful supply of grace can answer the emergency."
Oh! Let us never forget to start our day with this earnest plea - "Deal bountifully with Thy servant, that I may live, and keep Thy word."
And if we have failed to live according to His Holy Standards, may we earnestly plead with Him for heavy grace and a bountiful provision of mercy - always keeping in mind that He deals with us not according to our deserts but according to His mercy.
Psalm 119:124 verifies that principle - "Deal with Thy servant according unto Thy mercy..."
Where we have gone wrong, may the Lord instruct us accordingly.
Job said it this way - "That which I see not teach Thou me: if I have done iniquity, I will do no more"(Job 34:32).
In Job 6:24, he said - "Teach me, and I will hold my tongue: and cause me to understand wherein I have erred."
One of the choicest ways that God displays His mercy toward us is by teaching us out of His Law. Great grace is evidenced whenever He instructs us in His commands - especially after going astray - "Deal with Thy servant according unto Thy mercy, and teach me Thy statutes"(Psalm 119:124).
We close with these words from Spurgeon, The Treasury Of David, pg. 1069 - "The Lord has dealt bountifully with us! He has given us His Son, and in Him, He has given us all things. He has sent His Spirit, and by Him, He conveys all spiritual blessings. God deals with us like a God. He lays His fullness open, 'and of His fullness we have all received, and grace for grace.' (John 1:16). We have sat at no miser's table. We have not been clothed by a destitute hand. We have not been equipped by a grudging provider. Let us return to Him who has treated us with such exceeding kindness..."
Be encouraged today, O Weary One!
Your Days Of Overflow are coming.
Mercy's Golden Hours are about to overtake you.
Before you know it, you will be rejoicing - having your soul once again at ease, your spiritual life strengthened and established, and your thinking renewed.
Why not do as the Psalmist did and declare by faith - "Thou hast dealt well with Thy servant, O LORD, according unto Thy word"(Psalm 119:65).
"...because He hath dealt bountifully with me."
"...for the LORD hath dealt bountifully with thee."
Your change is coming!
God is about to magnify His grace and lift high His love before you.
Just believe it and receive it!
May God Bless His Word.
