God Will Act
In Due Time
"For God to consider is to act in
due time. People consider and do nothing, but this is never the case with
God." - Charles Spurgeon, The Treasury Of David, pg. 1201
Psalm 9:13 - "Have mercy
upon me, O LORD; consider my trouble which I suffer of them that hate
me, Thou that liftest me up from the gates of death."
Psalm 13:3 - "Consider
and hear me, O LORD my God: lighten mine eyes, lest I sleep the sleep of
death."
Psalm 25:19 - "Consider
mine enemies; for they are many; and they hate me with cruel hatred."
Psalm 31:7 - "I will be
glad and rejoice in Thy mercy: for Thou hast considered my trouble;
Thou hast known my soul in adversities."
Psalm 119:153 - "Consider
mine affliction, and deliver me: for I do not forget Thy law."
Lamentations 5:1 -
"Remember, O LORD, what is come upon us: consider, and behold our
reproach."
God considers and hears you. He knows your soul in adversity. He keeps in
check your enemies, and takes notice of all your afflictions, sorrows, or
humiliations and desires to restore your soul.
People consider and do nothing!
But as we can see from the Holy
Scriptures, that is not the case with God.
He acts - He responds in due time!
Oh! What a comforting thought - especially to all those who
are presently experiencing troubles, reproach, or ill-treatment from deadly
enemies.
What does it mean when the Bible says that
God "considers"?
Wilson's Old Testament Word Studies defines it as
such - "to look with consideration and attention...see with
thought and reflection...take good notice...look upon with a kind, friendly,
compassionate affection...respect, regard."
In other words, God Almighty - this very day
- is looking upon you...regarding your wants...attending to your
cry...hearing your complaints...considering your case...seeing and hearing
all that is happening in your life...doubly moved to pity over it
all...understanding your problem in the midst of doubt and dejection...
seeing and knowing all of your feelings in this time of adversity, sorrow,
and anxiety...taking notice of your affliction and all the circumstances
behind it...regarding with interest all your feelings, desires, hopes, and
dreams...seeing, directing, and fixing a boundary on all your
troubles...watching, weighing, checking, and defeating your
enemies...observing your suffering arising from those who are envious of you
and hate you...judging the proper time and method for your deliverance and
rescue...looking down earnestly with great pity on your reproach, disgrace,
and shame that was caused by your sin and disobedience.
Be assured of this one thing!
God will act in due time.
He will lighten your eyes lest you sleep the sleep of death. He will lighten
your darkness...guide your way...clear your eyes of faith so that you will
be able to - see Him working behind the scenes or in the darkness... know
the right way to take...envision a happy outcome of your troubles...and see
above the things of sense.
He will definitely check and defeat all your enemies - those who are driven
to acts of cruelty against you.
He will do as He deems fit and bring you out of your troubles - sustaining
you through it all so that you do not undergo any serious damage.
Sickness, sin, despair, or temptation may have brought you low. Nonetheless,
He will lift you up - yes, even from the
"gates of death."
You may feel as though you are not going to make it through your time of
trial and testing. He will not sit by as one unconcerned. Your present
troubles - whether caused by your own sin or not - will not seem little to
Him.
He takes notice of all that touches you. And according to His great
wisdom, He will intervene in due time and bring your deliverance.
We close with two statements from Matthew Henry's Commentary
on these verses -
"As it is a great comfort to us, so it
ought to be a sufficient one, in our troubles, that God sees, and considers,
and remembers, all that has come upon us, and in our prayers we need only to
recommend our case to His gracious and compassionate consideration."
"God is never unmindful of His people's
afflictions, but He will have us to put Him in remembrance, to spread our
case before Him, and then leave it to His compassionate consideration to do
in it as in His wisdom He shall think fit, in His own time and way."
Are you experiencing troubles, afflictions, or guilt and shame
today?
Why not ask God to
"consider and hear" you?
You can be confident that He will respond to your need in due time.
Just give Him your problem and watch Him work it out.
He cares for you.
Indeed, He does!
May God Bless His Word.
