A People Who Turn
God's Stomach

Did you know that God, at times, gets very offended with a certain type of people. In fact, He becomes nauseated, indignant, disgusted, and exceedingly displeased with them, having a strong abhorrence of their conduct and ways.
Who could they possibly be? What does the Bible say? Are you one of them?

The Scriptures tell us in Hebrews 3:10 that God was "grieved" with an entire generation.

How can this be? For what reason?

Hebrews 3:10 says of the Lord - "WHEREFORE I WAS GRIEVED WITH THAT GENERATION, AND SAID, THEY DO ALWAY ERR IN THEIR HEART; AND THEY HAVE NOT KNOWN MY WAYS."

"THEY DO ALWAY ERR IN THEIR HEART;
AND THEY HAVE NOT KNOWN MY WAYS"
Here are two conditions over which God becomes exceedingly angry.

Do we, as a generation, have these conditions present?
Are we a people who
"ERR IN THEIR HEART" and do not know His ways?
Can it be said of our generation that God is offended or nauseated with us?

The people who "ERR IN THEIR HEART" are those who set their affections on earthly things.
Their heart is set on laying up treasures in this world rather than in the celestial world to come.

They are a people -

...who have experienced God's Power and Goodness, yet they have not allowed it to change their heart or lifestyle in the way of godliness

...disposed to wander from God and His holy statutes. The corrupt affections in their hearts cause them to turn back to the things of this world. So with their mouths they flatter God with all the right words such as "I Love You, Lord" and "Hallelujah," but their hearts are far from Him.

...not inclined to obedience or a lifestyle of duty, self-sacrifice, and soberness. They are more inclined to stubbornness, self-will, ease, and pleasure.

The second condition which sparks God's anger is for His people to not know His ways -
"...AND THEY HAVE NOT KNOWN MY WAYS."

The word "KNOW," in this verse, doesn't indicate having a knowledge of something. It expresses the approbation or approval of something or someone.

Therefore, when the Scriptures speak of a generation which did not "KNOW" God's ways, it's describing a people who indeed were acquainted with His ways but did not approve of them. Seeing that His ways are indicative of His government, law, and rightful claims on their lives, these were a people who didn't like them.

They didn't like His ways of -
...walking in holiness and conformity to His will
...forgiveness that reaches even unto their enemies
...laying down their lives for others.

They simply didn't walk in God's ways because they were rebellious.

What would cause a whole generation who repeatedly experienced the innumerable mercies and miraculous intervention of God to become so hardened in their hearts against Him and "ERR IN THEIR HEART"?

In Hosea 4:12, the Prophet Hosea declared of the people of Israel - "...for the spirit of whoredoms hath caused them to err." The evil and corrupt passions of their heart caused them to turn away from God.

Hosea 4:12 - The Prophet of God then added - "...and they have gone a whoring from under their God."

The image presented here is that of an adulterous wife. She is inferred to being "under her husband." What this indicates is that she is under his authority.

When Hosea declared of the people who were supposed to be wedded to God that "they have gone a whoring from under their God," he was saying that, through the evil and corrupt passions of their own hearts, they had withdrawn themselves from God's authority, headship, guidance, and command and given themselves to another - an idol of some sort.

We ask ourselves also at this point - what would cause an entire generation to reject God's ways?

Jeremiah 9:6 - The Prophet Jeremiah gives a probable answer - "Thine habitation is in the midst of deceit; through deceit they refuse to know Me, saith the Lord..."

Proverbs 1:25 - These people over a period of time "set at nought" all of God's counsel. They received none of His reproofs.
Proverbs 1:29 - They "hated knowledge, and did not choose the fear of the LORD."
John 3:19
- They loved "darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil."
2 Thessalonians 2:10,12
- They "received not the love of the Truth," "but had pleasure in unrighteousness."
2 Timothy 4:3
- "Having itching ears," they heaped to themselves teachers "after their own lusts."
2 Timothy 4:4
- They "turned away their ears from the truth."

This caused them to be the generation that always errs in their heart and is displeased with God's ways.
This is the generation with which God was nauseated, disgusted, and very angry.

And said to say - this generation typifies much of the church world today - a people who -

...are wedded to their sinful course,
...have turned back to Egypt or the world in their heart.
...go to church every Sunday and go through the motions, yet don't love, serve, and obey the Lord Jesus Christ throughout the week.
...call themselves Christians yet are ashamed to stand up for Him amidst a crooked, perverse, and adulterous generation.
...have hearts that are inclined to wealth and pleasure rather than God
...follow Him as long as His ways don't conflict with theirs
...want their ears tickled and reject any preaching that calls for a change in their behavior or conduct
...love and excuse Sin on every turn because it's so prevalent in their own lives.

This is the generation who "ERR IN THEIR HEART" and do not know God's ways.

And this is the generation that will reap the horrible judgment of an angry God unless they repent.

Are you a part of this group?
Then it's time to get right with Him for He is coming to judge the earth -

Psalm 96:13 - "...He shall judge the world with righteousness, and the people with His truth."

Whatever changes need to be made in your life - they need to be made Now!
This decision can't be put off for another moment.

Don't let it be said - "Too Late!"
Change your ways!

May God Bless His Word.
