LET THEM ALONE
Suppose the Son of the Living
God would say of us today - "Let them alone."
How would we feel?
What would be our reaction?
What kind of behavior would provoke a denunciation such as this one?
There were three classes of people who received God's censure.
It would behoove us, at this time, to study who they were so that we could
avoid their behavior and their end result.
1. Blind Leaders Of The Blind
Matthew 15:14 - "Let them alone: they be blind leaders of the blind. And
if the blind lead the blind, both shall fall into the ditch."
"Let them alone" - What Jesus was saying here to His disciples concerning
the Pharisees was - Pay no attention to these leaders. Don't mind them.
They are unworthy of notice. Give them up. Have nothing to do with them.
Don't meddle with them. Have no concern for them or with them.
Why?
Why should they "Let them alone"?
Shouldn't they try to reach them or reason with them?
These Pharisees were spiritually blind. They were wicked and grossly
ignorant of God, His Word, His ways, and His will. They had "Tunnel
Vision." They only saw Truth as it lined up with their traditions. If it
didn't conform to their dictates, they rejected it.
The sad thing about it all is that they wanted to be this way. They were
willfully ignorant.
Because they rejected the Truth of God, they became blind - spiritually
blind.
The worst thing about it all is that they were influential with the
masses. They were "leaders " - "blind leaders."
As we all know, "leaders" always have followers.
Because these particular "leaders" were Truth rejectors and spiritually
blind, so were their disciples.
They were headed for the same "ditch" as their instructors which was
spiritual destruction in Hell.
One short note here - Many have misconstrued this verse to mean that we
should never say anything in regards to the teachings of any "blind
leaders." The Lord Jesus was not saying that here. He did not mean for us
to stop pointing out or exposing the error of any "blind leaders" of our
day or to warn others of their wicked and evil ways and teachings.
2. Those Joined To Idols
Hosea 4:17 - "Ephraim is joined to idols: let him alone."
"Ephraim" represented the ten tribes of Israel. Instead of being
worshippers of the true and living God, they began to take on the idols of
the nations surrounding them. Many feared the Lord and still clung to the
worship of the Lord God of Israel. But they also adopted the false gods of
the heathen and their idolatrous practices in their worship as well.
They were "joined to idols." What does this mean? It means that they were
bound up with false gods. They were banded to and cleaving to them. They
became so attached to them that they were not willing to part with them.
What did God say of these Israelites? "Let them alone." In other words,
abandon them. Give them no further rebuke or reproof. Give them over to
their own heart's lusts. Let them walk in their own counsel.
3. False Teachers Seeking After The Gold
1 Timothy 6:5 - "Perverse disputings of men of corrupt minds, and
destitute of the truth, supposing that gain is godliness: from such
withdraw thyself."
"Perverse disputings" - This was an allusion to the discussions that were
merely a waste of time. They were disputations that could not be settled.
It was idle employment that had no advantage.
The picture presented here is of two things rubbing against each other -
rubbing in pieces - galling each other - irritating and vexing one another
- wearing away at time and energy.
These "perverse disputings" involved men who had "corrupt minds." These
men had wicked hearts because they did not adhere to the Word of God.
Hence, they were "destitute of the truth." They did not know the Truth,
nor adhere to its teachings, but rejected it.
"Supposing that gain is godliness" - Prosperity was their total emphasis
in religion. Money was their main object of pursuit. They judged
everything in their belief system on how it pertained to "gain." They
cloaked their insatiable desire for wealth under the pretense of piety. In
all actuality, they lived not for God and His Kingdom. On the contrary,
they lived for "gain" and selfish ambition.
"From such withdraw thyself" - In other words, "Let them alone." Have
nothing to do with them. Have no connection or fellowship with them in any
sense of the word. Do not acknowledge them as spiritual leaders or
teachers of God's principles. Don't patronize them. "Withdraw" from them
with unutterable loathing and disgust for their wicked ways.
We see here that there were three classes of people who received God's
disapproval for their wickedness.
The Pharisees were condemned because they were rejectors of the Truth. If
a teaching did not line up with their tradition or way of thinking, they
refused to accept it.
Ephraim was rejected because he was an idolater. He wanted to serve the
true and living God and still hold onto the idols of the surrounding
nations.
The False Teachers were rejected because they made money their pursuit in
life rather than God.
How important it is that we take heed to this word today.
How important it is that we examine ourselves to see if we are rejectors
of the Truth like the Pharisees.
Do we also have "Tunnel Vision"?
Do we refuse any teaching that does not fit into our denominational or
traditional mold yet lines up with the Word of God?
Are we like Ephraim in that we are "joined to idols"?
An "idol" is anything that we put before the Lord Jesus.
Are there any idols in our lives?
We can place good things like family, a job, a career, education,
ministry, position, wealth, talents and abilities, possessions, etc.
before God in our lives.
Have we done that?
Or is Jesus Lord of all?
What about the "Prosperity Message" that is so prevalent in the land
today?
Surely God does desire to meet our needs and to bless His children. And
that He so graciously does.
But money or "gain" must never be the object or main attraction in our
walk with God.
1 Corinthians 6:19-20 - The Scriptures tell us that we are "bought with a
price," and we are not our own.
We are not here on this earth to to lay up treasures on earth.
We are here to -
...lay up treasures in heaven
...serve the Living God and accomplish His purposes
...advance His kingdom and win lost souls for the Harvest.
Our main objective should be to do God's Will and be obedient to His
commands - not to get rich.
Have we been swept away with such perverted teaching?
Our desire should be to one day hear the Lord Jesus say of us - "Well
done."
God Forbid that we should ever hear the words - "Let them alone."
May we take heed to the Word of God this day and make any necessary
changes in our lives so that we will win God's approval and not His
displeasure.
May God Bless His Word.
